Porto, Portugal

Our day in Porto started out with Jess, Caleb, and me having coffee on a rainy morning in Leixões with an old friend and colleague, Peter, the Prince of Porto. As the onboarder to my first team, he taught me everything I know about Automattic.

He knows who he is if he’s reading this. He’s mysterious, so I’m not putting his picture out there.

I had been to Porto for work for WordCamp EU in 2022, but Jess had never been, so I was super pumped to explore it with her.

We donned our raincoats and took a 30-minute bus ride into the city, and did our favorite travel activity–walking around and eating stuff. In Turkey, there’s a word for it.

Gezmek: To Stroll / Walk Around: To walk for pleasure, such as a casual walk in the park or browsing through the city

We wandered (gezdik) around the hilly, rainy city of Porto for a few hours before the majestic bus ride back to Leixões. It was majestic because: (1) Caleb fell asleep and (2) the sun came out to begin a stunningly beautiful afternoon.

We finished our day throwing off our shoes and walking around on the beach next to the cruise port before we had to eventually get back on the boat.
